Senior Engineer/Lead Engineer 09-0423
PHI/DPL is posting a position that will be filled at the Senior Engineer or Lead Engineer level. Those candidates who meet the minimum requirements for the Senior or the Lead positions will be interviewed. The most qualified candidate, from either level, Senior or Lead Engineer, based on the Structured Interview, will be hired. This position provides engineering and technical direction in the development evaluation and implementation of projects, studies, plans, engineering activities and field activities requiring initiative and sound engineering judgment. This position requires an understanding and application of engineering theories, standards, concepts, techniques, as well as knowledge of engineering/industry codes and government regulations associated with the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), gas transmission and distribution systems, facilities and equipment, including gas metering and regulation, communications and SCADA. This position will also provide technical direction and support for the electrical and communications engineering needs of Gas Delivery. Senior Engineer Required: • Bachelor of Science in engineering. • 6 years of progressive, relevant engineer experience as described below (including experience as an Engineer 2) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills: o working independently on routine projects and/or under guidance on special projects, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards, concepts, and techniques as well as engineering/industry/government codes and regulations; o performing and interpreting engineering analyses and/or economic data analyses for engineering projects, using specialized utility programs and/or vendor-specific software; o developing creative solutions to problems of above-average complexity; o managing multiple engineering projects/assignments and ensuring work conforms to project/task requirements, including: coordinating work across different areas, departments and/or work groups; and, developing bid specifications and evaluation criteria. o identifying the need for new projects/initiatives and recommending a solution; o mentoring engineers and others in a variety of engineering projects/activities; o keeping abreast of new equipment, methods and developments in an engineering specialty. • Experience demonstrating skill providing technical guidance and/or training in engineering theories, standards, concepts, and/or techniques as applied to electric power distribution and/or plant electrical facilities and equipment. • Experience demonstrating skill presenting oral and written results of engineering projects. • Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, analytical and e-mail software. • Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites. • Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies. • Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (for example, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing). • Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around pressurized gas, liquefied natural gas, energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces, climbing, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). • Must participate in DOT Drug & Alcohol Compliance program. • Must possess a valid driver’s license. • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check. Preferred: • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. • Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Experience demonstrating skill performing relevant utility engineer functions for utility and customer measurement and metering. • Experience demonstrating skill in the design, operation, and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution systems, facilities, and equipment. • Experience demonstrating skill in the design, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of plant or building electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. • Experience demonstrating skill in the design, installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of gas, electric, electronic and/or telecommunications monitoring and control systems (for example SCADA, EMS, telecom). • Experience demonstrating knowledge of the NESC, NEC, NFPA , PHMSA and OSHA codes. • Experience demonstrating skill using SAP and/or WMIS. LeadEngineer Required: • Bachelor of Science in engineering. • Minimum 8 years of progressive, relevant engineer experience as described below (including experience as a Senior Engineer) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills: o performing complex work independently, effectively incorporating engineering theories, standards, concepts, and techniques as well as engineering/industry/government codes and regulations. o performing and interpreting COMPLEX engineering and/or economic data analyses for LARGE AND/OR COMPLEX engineering projects, using specialized utility programs and/or vendor-specific software. o developing creative solutions to COMPLEX problems. o managing multiple COMPLEX engineering projects/assignments and ensuring work conforms to project/task requirements, including: coordinating work across different areas, departments and/or work groups, and, developing bid specifications and evaluation criteria. o identifying the need for new COMPLEX projects/initiatives and recommending a solution. o mentoring engineers and others in a variety of engineering projects/activities. o keeping abreast of new equipment, methods and developments in an engineering specialty. • Experience demonstrating skill providing technical guidance and/or training in engineering theories, standards, concepts, and/or techniques as applied to electric power distribution and/or plant electrical facilities and equipment. • Extensive experience demonstrating skill presenting oral and written results of engineering projects. • Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, database, analytical and e-mail software. • Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites. • Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies. • Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (for example, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing). • Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized pressurized gas, liquefied natural gas, electrical equipment, in confined spaces, climbing, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). • Must participate in DOT Drug & Alcohol Compliance program. • Must possess a valid driver’s license. • Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check. Preferred: • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. • Professional Engineer (PE) license. • Experience demonstrating skill performing relevant utility engineer functions for utility and customer measurement and metering. • Experience demonstrating skill assisting supervisors with assigning work, explaining procedures/processes, training personnel, and/or solving problems. • Experience demonstrating skill applying intensive and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. • Experience demonstrating skill in the design, operation, and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution systems, facilities, and equipment. • Experience demonstrating skill in the design, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of plant or building electrical and mechanical systems and equipment. • Experience demonstrating skill in the design, installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and/or repair of gas, electric, electronic and/or telecommunications monitoring and control systems (for example SCADA, EMS, telecom). • Experience demonstrating knowledge of the NESC, NEC, NFPA , PHMSA and OSHA codes. • Experience demonstrating skill using SAP and/or WMIS.
